Quick Guide to Networking, Social Media and Social Capital

Quick guide to networking, social media and social capital

What do I get asked about most, after “will you be my mentor” (watch for the self-mentoring guide coming soon)? I’m often approached by business people, especially those with small and new businesses, asking about how to use social media, is there any point, and how will it help them.

If you’ve ever asked me or a colleague or even yourself …

  • How do I set up a good Twitter profile / LinkedIn profile / Facebook page for the ‘business me’?
  • What should I do with my social media when I’ve got it going?
  • Should I be doing all that blogging stuff?
  • Should I be going to networking meetings?
  • What should I do at networking meetings once I pluck up the courage to go to them?
  • What will this all do for me anyway?
  • How can I help and connect with other people in my industry?

… this is the book for you.

The new book in my Quick Guide series, this is a no-frills, no-jargon, to-the-point guide to using social media and physical networks to your best advantage, laying down social capital and then using it to benefit yourself and others. Short chapters on the basics of business networking and using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. are connected with real-world uses and examples, so you can see the point of these activities, optimise your presence on the various physical and electronic networks without wasting time, and see what they can do for you, and you can do for them.

There are links back to FREE worked examples, screenshots and detailed examples on my popular Libroediting blog, so that you can read the basics and the theory and its applications in the book then pop over to the blog to look at anything you’re not clear on.

Well-known New York Times bestselling author-entrepreneur Joanna Penn of thecreativepenn.com has this to say about the book: “This book will help you to understand the more detailed nuance of social media … as well as how to be generous on the networks and work for mutual benefit with your connections. There’s also a section on the psychology of networking for introverts, which is helpful as many people feel their personality holds them back online. I particularly like the summing up section, where Liz advises “Be kind.” If everyone online followed this advice, the world would be a fantastic place! A useful little book for the newbie social networker.”

YOU SHOULD BUY THIS BOOK IF …

you want to find out more about using social media and physical networks to grow your influence and business.

YOU SHOULDN’T BUY THIS BOOK IF …

If you’re looking for a more general book on growing your business, you would do better to have a look at my other business books.

If you already have my second business book, “Running a Successful Business After the Start-up Phase”, or my business omnibus, “Your Guide to Starting and Running your Business”, then lots of the information in this quick guide is covered there. I don’t want to rip you off, so if you’ve already got those, don’t buy this one unless you want just this info in an easy-to-find format.

Although I give you lots of hints on networking and marketing, if you’re looking for a book about network marketing (think Amway and Forever Living) this one is not specifically on that topic; such companies have particular ways of operating and are not what I’m talking about here.

If you do buy, read and enjoy it, please, please post a review – as an independent author, I don’t have a publicity machine and reviews really do help people decide to buy as well as helping the online booksellers’ algorithms to understand where to promote it. A quick share on your social media wouldn’t go amiss, either. Thank you!
